Petit Mayne d'Olivier Bordeaux 2009

As I was looking for a good wine to bring for a future dinner party I stumbled on a wine from my local Wine and Spirits establishments. I wanted something a little different to one day bring to a philosophy discussion, dinner party, or just to be a good host.

I decided to try this French wine from Bordeaux , which is generally a wonderful region for amazing wines. Some of the best wines in the world come from Bordeaux especially because of the hundreds of years to learn and cultivate the vine.

However, as a great as Bordeaux is with wine Mayne d'Olivier is not one of their greatest accomplishments. I will not say it is one of their worst, but it is not something I would ever drink again. Anyone who feels the need to buy it as a gift for a friend or serve it to others should really consider re-evaluating their life choices. Yes the bottle is only $8, but that is no excuse for a powerhouse region of amazing wines. Even the worst wines in that region should beat Yellowtail or GatoNegro every time.

The wine is 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet, but this mixture has truly destroyed the integrity of both grapes. Their tastes have been diluted to a point where the only  thing recognizable  is the alcohol. There are plenty of legs when testing for alcohol content, but that is just it. It is a tasteless wine that should have never been created.

My recommendation is this for the year of 2009 Mayne d'Olivier please do not purchase this wine. Even if it is extremely cheap or free it is not worth it and your pallet will thank you. If you are thinking of using it to make sangria do not. However, I will admit it does make a nice marinade for steaks on the grill. Yet only use a little bit so that the beef is not completely over powered.

I wish Mayne d'Olivier wines well and hope that in future years they produce better wines. Sometimes wine mixes can be great, but not for the year of 2009. Keep exploring the vines.

Thank You
Jonny Jones
